About Marklab
Student-founded. Locally made. Built around your ideas.
Marklab is a student-founded, locally operated fabrication studio based in San Francisco.
We work with individuals, schools, community organizations, and local businesses to turn ideas into thoughtfully made physical products. Some projects begin with a finished design, while others start with only a sketch or a general concept. Marklab helps bring those ideas through the design, material selection, prototyping, and production process.
Our approach is flexible, collaborative, and shaped around the needs of each project.
Our Story
The work that became Marklab began in 2024 through a mix of personal, school, and community projects. Early work ranged from custom gifts and event materials to functional parts and small-batch products, included Lunar New Year signs for community events, custom rulers for a local tutoring center, and components for a student robotics team.
As the projects became more varied and more people began requesting custom work, the idea gradually developed into a more organized fabrication studio.
One early project brought together many parts of what Marklab was becoming. Working with a local dental clinic, we produced 200 custom keychains for a fundraiser supporting Guadalupe Elementary School. The order had to be completed within two weeks, so the work was organized across design, machine production, assembly, finishing, inspection, and packaging with help from a small group of student collaborators.
The project helped raise nearly $4,000 for improvements to the school’s soccer field. It remains one meaningful example of how custom fabrication can serve both practical and community purposes.
Since then, Marklab has continued expanding its equipment, materials, and production capabilities while taking on a wider range of custom projects for individuals, schools, organizations, and local businesses.

Meet Our Founder
Tony Wang founded Marklab while attending Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco. He leads the studio’s design, client communication, prototyping, production planning, machine operation, and quality control.
After moving from China to San Francisco in ninth grade, Tony became involved in District 11 community projects and local small-business research. These experiences helped shape Marklab’s local focus and its interest in making design and fabrication more accessible to schools, youth groups, nonprofit organizations, and small businesses.
His interests in engineering and economics guide both the technical and operational sides of Marklab. For larger projects, Tony plans the production workflow and coordinates student collaborators across assembly, finishing, inspection, and packaging.
Over time, he hopes to develop Marklab into a sustainable, student-led studio that gives young people hands-on project experience, helps local clients bring ideas into production, and directs part of its future proceeds toward youth and community initiatives.
